15-year-old Dalwhinnie, born in the Highlands of Scotland and finished in Oloroso sherry casks.
De Dalwhinnie distilleerderij is de koudste en hoogst gelegen distilleerderij van Schotland, nl. 326 meter boven de zeespiegel. Dalwhinnie komt uit het Gaelic en betekent "Dail-coinneeamh" ofwel ontmoetingsplaats. Door de centrale ligging was het een rustplaats voor veehandelaren. In 1897 werd de distilleerderij gebouwd onder de naam Strathspey en in 1905 veranderde de naam in Dalwhinnie.
Big honey and nougat notes here, this spirit is showing a lovely maturity and balance, with smoldering maltiness that exhibits a touch of smoke on it. Coconut and a bit of banana are also present, atop a mild and pleasant sweetness driven by that citrus-fueled Sherry body. Some green pepper character in the finish doesn't detract; instead it adds a touch of complexity.
