De drank werd voor het eerst gemaakt in 1832 in Klagenfurt. De naam van de drank is vernoemd naar uitvinder Sebastian Stroh. Stroh was een familiebedrijf dat zijn reputatie kreeg bij de Wereldtentoonstelling in Parijs in 1900.

Stroh Jagertee is een typisch Oostenrijkse specialiteit, gemaakt volgens traditioneel recept uit 1864. De unieke Stroh Jagertee bestaat uit o.a. thee, gekarameliseerde suiker, kaneel, kruidnagel, limoen, sinasappelschil en de bekende Stroh rum.
