It takes time and much of David Stewart’s infinite skill and patience to hand-pick the barrels that create a new and distinctive batch of Tun 1401. And by marrying 12 of the rarest and most precious sherry butts and American Oak casks to produce a whisky characterised by citrus fruits as well as the familiar hints of vanilla and honey, Batch 8 is no exception – especially when some of the butts and casks have been maturing since David Stewart’s early days at the distillery.

Companta, Scots Gaelic for friendship. It's a marriage of whiskies finished in Clos de Tart Grand Cru wine casks and sweet fortified wine casks from Côtes du Rhône. Dr Bill Lumsden likes to experiment each year and we suspect this will be excellent.

Finished for two-and-a-half years in 154 toasted ex-Portuguese-red-wine barriques, this is sweet with notes of tropical fruit and lemon sherbet, backed up with some ginger spice.

West Backs Farm, Belgravia Barley -Bottle code 17/521   Another stunning release from Springbank's popular Local Barley series. This 10 year old single malt was made with barley that was grown locally (which you could probably have guessed from the name, but it's always nice to be clear on things), and was aged for a decade in 70% bourbon casks and 30% Sherry casks.

Springbank Rundlets and Kilderkins Single Scotch Malt Whisky 49.4% 70cl   Distilled in 2001 and bottled in 2012 after being matured in smaller than usual casks (Springbank Rundlets & Kilderkins).

A Monumental Whisky, Born of Stone. While crafting Glenmorangie Artein Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's Head of Distilling & Whisky Creation, was intrigued by the influence of stone in the natural ingredients of the whisky, especially considering the material's special significance to us.

De Millstone Special No. 18 23 years old 1996 Single Barrel Oloroso Sherry  is een 23 jaar oude Nederlandse single malt van Zuidam Distillers in Baarle Nassau. Een special 23 jaar oude single cask release gedistilleerd 1996 en gerijpt in een sherry hogshead.

Laphroaig’s Cairdeas incorporates a phase of resting in second-fill Ruby Port ‘barriques’, ex-Bourbon barrels, and ex-red wine casks. The balance is one that’s been refined over the years, and the 2020 might be the best yet.
